In February 2019 the team from Fraunhofer HHI, Clausthal University of Technology and Rotary Club Goslar started the first electrification project at the island Kibumba at Victoria lake in the nothwest of Tanzania in collaboration with the Tanzanian company JUMEME. We installed a 2nd life solar field with a peak power of 12 kWp and a 2nd life lithium-ion storage with a capacity of about 70 kWh. This mini-grid system serves for about 50 private households, the primary school, the dispensary and up to 3 fridges that can be used by the fishermen for cooling their fish before selling at the market.

December 2021

In December 2021 we continued our work by installing a water purification system at the island Kibumba serving the people with clean drinking water for their daily use. The water of the lake is pumped through a special filer system, then disinfected by UV-C light illumination and finally filtered by a nano-filter system.

January 2022

In January 2022 we started setting up our first container-based VoltaView micro-grid-25 system with 2nd life LIB storage system, 2nd life solar panels and integrated water purification system which will be finalized in February – we will report.
